Bass Pro Sprts

I am getting ready for the start of fishing season and I was in Calgary so I decided to stop in at the new Bass Pro Shops store there. All I can say is wow! What a store it has anything and everything you would need for the outdoors.

I spent a few dollars there on some new tackle this year. Right now I have two trips planned one to the North Saskatchewan and then one to Canoe Lake.

To fish on the river I picked up some Pickerel rigs and imitation leeches. The leeches are by Berkley and they say they are better than the real thing so we will see in 12 days. I have always used real leeches, but I am really not a fan of picking them up with my bare hands, hence the switch to the fake ones.

For the trip to canoe lake I picked up some planers. I have never used these before but according to Richard Mellon these will increase your fish catch. How they work is by taking you hook away from the side of the boat. By doing this fewer fish will be scared away from your hook by the boat. I hope it works because I dropped $80 on 4 of the things.

Thats all for now. If anyone has advise on planers or using leeches and pickerel rigs feel free to respond to my post.

Happy Fishing!

Fishing Season Set to Begin

This is my first blog post ever. The reason behind this blog is to help not only myself become a better fisherman, but also to allow others to become better at this craft. The times I don't catch fish I am not disappointed as being out there on a lake or the bank of a river can be serene and make you feel at one with nature, but I now have a little fella that is wanting to come out fishing and I want him to feel the success of catching a fish consistently. I will relay my adventures via this blog and let you know how we're making out in this part of the world.

Here is little bit of background with fishing.......
I first went fishing when I was 13 years old. It was summer and it was an amazing experience. Like those fish I was hooked right there that day. Over that summer I went fishing a half dozen times and I caught Jackfish, walleye and trout in the Battle River in Alberta.

After that summer it took me a little while to get back into fishing (about 15 years). I just was never given the opportunity to get back out there fishing as a kid and then the real world comes and your priorities and interest change.

I started fishing again about 7 years ago and it is something I look forward to each time I go out. I typically get out fishing 4 or 5 times a year (I would like it to be double that but you get what you get)

First trip of the year is coming up 2 weeks can't wait as its on the North Saskatchewan River. Here is hoping for some good luck.
